Vitalik Buterin, a programmer from Toronto (Canada) was first introduced to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in 2011 at the age of 17. That same year, the young man co-founded Bitcoin Magazine and wrote many articles explaining his views on the future of cryptocurrencies.
Later, he learned about Mastercoin and some alternative coins based on Bitcoin code. In the process of working on several Bitcoin-related projects, Vitalik Buterin came up with the idea of a more powerful tool than Bitcoin, allowing people to build blockchain applications. This idea is inspired by the shortcomings that he encountered when building applications from Bitcoin.
